Hot Mama!

This session is on sale now for $75 from now through Mother's Day weekend!

Since many of my friends have had babies in the last 6 months (about 5 friends I think) I have been a part of the transition from young married girl to Mommy. A common theme is not feeling pretty or sexy after kids. Between being peed on, pooped on, thrown up on, being tired, being busy, being in pain, not fitting in any of your clothes and a multiple of other factors - you just lose that confident edge.

So, I introduce to you the "Hot Mama Shoot". This is a shoot for women who have just had their babies or maybe their little ones are toddler age and they want to feel pretty again. The whole shoot includes hair and makeup done by me, a style consultation, an hour photo shoot and then of course, some wonderful images at the end. This is a great gift for a wife, a sister, or a friend.

Thank you to my friend Ashley Samperi for being my first Hot Mama. And thanks to her sweet boy Ezra for having a great attitude and making an appearance in the end. Here are some of her best shots!

This was so much fun and I would love to do it again! Contact me today to book your Hot Mama Session!

Lively Needham!

I got to do a photo shoot this morning with a new favorite little person! Introducing Miss Lively Needham - daughter of our good friends Kelly and Jimmy.

For a bit of back story on my friend Kelly go here. Kelly and I have been meeting weekly for a little over a year now. In that time, she had a miscarriage last December and 4 months later I miscarried in March. Her friendship has meant the world to me and truly I felt the comfort of God in her words and actions. There is something unique to have a friend that will just understand what you are saying, even when you're not saying it well. It was an overwhelming joy to see God bring beauty from ashes when Kelly found out she was pregnant while on a trip to Israel (in Jerusalem, how amazing is that?). And I sometimes still can't believe that Lively is finally here.

I don't know if Lively will ever know how much she was longed for, prayed for, thought about, worried over, rejoiced for and just plain enjoyed...but I know that her parents and I will always know it. Enjoy!

Laura Wilkerson's Headshots

Good times with a great friend!

On Sunday I drove up to College Station (good old times) and swapped head shot sessions with my good friend and former roommate, Laura Wilkerson who is also a great photographer just starting her business - www.lwilkerson.com

We met my sophomore year through her boyfriend at the time, now husband, Josh, who was the President of the "Res Week" committee (of which I had some position, secretary or something - I don't remember). She was at Purdue at the time and Josh was at A&M and a year later Laura moved down to Aggieland. We became friends and then got a duplex with our friend Kelly Burris Haisten our senior year.

I had so much fun with Laura and Kelly my senior year including staying up too late, smelling Laura's morning Americano (EVERY Morning and do NOT speak with her until she's had it), buying water by the 3 gallon container, purity princesses, whose line is it anyway, the discussion of naked time (totally foreign concept to me at the time - "You mean people actually want to be naked?" was my response), a ban on cooking fish in the house and lots of poop talk which was weird to me (not any more though).

Laura, I enjoy you so much and am so grateful that you are in my life and you're one of the big reasons I loved my time at A&M so much.

So, these are downtown Bryan - we had lots of laughs, no accidents and lots of excitement about the future! If you are in the Bryan/ CS area and need photography, call Laura, she's amazing! www.lwilkerson.com

And I referenced Laura's website wrong on image #6- its www.lwilkerson.com

Enjoy!

New 16x24!

Yeah!

I received a coupon at the PPA Expo a few weeks ago for a canvas print and I only had to pay for shipping. So I did what any photographer would do- I got the biggest one I possibly could. This canvas print would normally be $84 for me wholesale but I got it for $15- just the cost of shipping!

The image is one I took in Mexico in November. I was just hoping something like this would come out. It was near sunset time and the sun is shining right through a wonderful tree called the Palo Blanco. This tree is continually shedding strips of white, tissue paper thin bark. It looks beautiful how the sun caught it. I should have put a bit of fake sun flare but...we live and we learn.

It's hanging in my hallway and I love it.

Update on the resolution

Yeah! Things are going well I think in regards to my New Year's Resolution. Here are some of my achievements:

1. Got all my crafts and art supplies organized. This is no small feat (my parents would be able to read this statement and feel the weight of it). My crafts are now only in one tupperware in the garage and a few small, organized boxes in my studio/guest room.

2. The guest room is halfway a functioning studio (when you are an artist of any kind you get to call it a "studio" not an "office".) Pictures are below for you to see my progress.

3. Talked with a business coach friend of mine and I am setting goals for the new year. I have already set my pricing for my photography business, have a launch date for the website, a domain name picked out and business cards ready to order for March 1st.

4. I even picked up some new business including making marketing materials for some friends who have their own companies. And I booked two weddings to do hair and makeup. L. Schott Artistry is really getting into the "artistry" part - doing lots of different art things.

5. Landon and I have successfully kept our budget for two weeks (please don't laugh) and even have money in the savings account! Yeah! We're finally starting to grow up!

6. And, I don't really know if anyone is going to be able to sympathize but I've really been keeping the house clean lately. Yeah me. When my house is clean, this is what I see and this is what I feel:

Well, that's it for today. Stay tuned for more information about a new website, new products and more adventures in my life. Much Love

New Year's Resolution - Get my stuff together

I am assuming that a New Year's Resolution is still valid 2 weeks into the New Year...

My husband and I related turning 30 to staring down the barrel of a gun (my friends who are already there, please do not be offended and don't laugh). Landon is turning 29 this year and I am turning 28. While those numbers feel so young to many, they are a bit frightening to us. I think its because when I thought of "30" it meant you had your "stuff" together so to speak. I don't feel like I have anything together. Maybe some of my 30-something friends can soothe my fears here.

I mean, its somewhat acceptable to be slightly broke, live without a plan, a schedule or goals in your 20's. Most of society is forgiving of the 20-something goofball who has nothing together but once you hit 30, its not cute, its sad and ridiculous. When I filled out those sheets of paper at 18 that said "Where do you think you'll be in 10 years?" I thought I would either have kids or a powerful career. I thought of a house, maybe a dog, a savings account, maybe even a minivan. I thought I would be assured of myself and confident. I thought I would be secure in my gifts, callings and passions. I thought I might have a hobby or two that I was good at. I thought I would have lots of young women wanting to be discipled by me- I thought maybe I'd lead Bible Studies and write books.

I don't really do all those things and I certainly don't do them all well. I don't feel confident of myself or my gifts. I am selfish a lot of days. I stink at saving money (but working on it) and we do need to buy a new car but I am totally happy with a civic that isn't breaking down. So maybe as we go our live expectations just adjust...

Well...its time to get my stuff together. Here are the general areas I am focusing on:

1. That whole relationship with God thing - I've had lots of excuses as to why I am not spending more intentional and consistent time with God in the last 5 years. It ends today. Stop being a whiner.

2. That whole money thing - we are keeping a budget. We are saving. We are giving more than last year. I am saying no to splurge items and looking at a bigger picture like children, cars and hard times.

3. That whole home business thing - Photography, makeup, design or whatever you call it L. Schott Artistry will do business this year. Its time to get educated, get organized and get myself out there and offer something from my creative brain to the world.

4. That whole fitness thing - I've progressively gained weight since I got married and it happens to all of us. I currently sit at the top threshold of over-weightedness (couldn't find the right word) for my height. I don't want to flirt with that line for a whole lot longer. With heart problems, diabetes and other health issues that are in my bloodline its time to say no to Wendy's and hello to veggies.

5. That whole kids thing - this is a tough one. Essentially I want to trust God, I want to hand over that psychotic control grip thing I have but it's really hard. So, the goal is not "We will have kids in 2011" the goal is: "We will intentionally pray for direction about children in our life this year. We will be filled with gratitude and hope. I will not be known as 'Mara' like Naomi but I will be glad and joyful again. I will not sulk when the 73rd person in my life says 'I'm pregnant' but I will rejoice at their miracle. And I will fight to believe and trust no matter what God's response to me is."

So this is where it starts. Stay tuned for updates in each of these areas. Today, I already started on my business plan. I organized most of my craft supplies and bought some desk organizers and I believe later today I am getting some shelves.

Happy New Year - Bring it.
